In the Secondary School, children are motivated and encouraged to achieve their full potential. Carefully planned activities and experiences give children the confidence and enthusiasm to become life-long learners
Teachers are sensitive to the needs of the children in their classes and seek to ensure that they are able to benefit fully from every aspect of school life. The Secondary School sparks a joy and interest in learning that will stay with a student for life. Caring teachers stimulate natural curiosity. Classes are limited to 20 children and are of mixed ability. Small classes allow for the personal attention that helps a young boy thrive and develop his self-esteem.
Students are challenged to think critically, research deeply, and develop globally minded perspectives on a broad range of issues. The curriculum is developed and revised based on the latest research related to brain development and how children learn. It is based on the five essential elements that direct the program:
Students follow a curriculum that provides a solid grounding in basic skills and promotes good study habits. From the earliest age, boys learn to express themselves as competent communicators and to develop self-reliance.
Students learn through inquiry-based instruction within a variety of subject disciplines, including English and French, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, and Physical Education. All students learn to use technology through hands-on experiences in Grade 6.
Assemblies, field trips, guest speakers and "big brothers" from the Senior School enhance the learning experience. Beyond the classroom, a wide variety of clubs and sports provide additional opportunities for friendship, teamwork and leadership.
THS is committed to providing a continuum of international education to our students. Our overarching goal is to foster responsible citizenry; to educate young men who are able to think critically and learn independently.
Program curricula are developed and revised based on the latest research related to brain development and how children learn. Assessment of the programs at each institution, and of student work, is based on solid, consistent criteria found at every IB school, anywhere in the world.
