Languages
English
English is the main language of instruction at The Hub School. It is the universal language and as such it is essential that our students have an excellent command.
Even though the thorough knowledge of a language is crucial, the boys also need to have the confidence to use their skills. For this reason at The Hub School we place great emphasis on debate, drama, essay writing, letter writing, assemblies, presentations and preparation of portfolios, all essential for the boys to use and perfect their skills.
Urdu
Although English is considered the Universal language, Urdu is the national language of Pakistan and so it is essential for the boys to excel in it. As for English we emphasise debate, drama, essay writing, letter writing, assemblies and presentation and preparation of portfolios in Urdu in order to develop a sound command of the language and appreciation of Urdu literature.
Third Language:
The Hub School offers a third language. French, Spanish and Arabic studied as part of their extra-curricular activities in the lower school.
Mathematics and Information Technology
Mathematics
The importance of mathematics cannot be overemphasized. Whether in accountancy, book keeping, budget preparation, architecture or ICT, mathematics is an essential part of life. With our small class sizes and up to date equipment mathematics is fun yet challenging.
Information Technology or Computer Studies
Computers play an ever important role in our lives. At The Hub School all students have access to computers in the classroom and our two fully equipped computer laboratories.
Arts
Music
The significance of music in our lives is often underestimated. One has only to listen to the advertisements on the radio or TV or in a film to be aware of its power.
At The Hub School, the boys learn not only to appreciate all types of music but also to read and play. Although they may start with the simple recorder, most will join the school choir, orchestra or one of the school bands. The trend is now for students to form their own band. Apart from the hard core curriculum, students can learn appreciation for both regional and traditional music.
Dance and drama
Dance, drama, speech making and debate are all important assets needed to give the boys confidence to use their abilities in English and Urdu.
Regular assemblies, productions and group competitions will give the boys, either as individuals or as groups, the chance to use their communication skills, in different situations.
The use of body language, the ability to argue rationally and firmly and the ability to speak clearly and logically are all part of our education.
In addition at The Hub School we are keen to preserve local dance and tradition to show to the rest of the world, as well as bringing other world cultures into the school.
Art
The study of Art also has two thrusts.
Firstly, there is the satisfaction of creating your own work, whether it is in fine arts, on the potter's wheel or in ceramics.
Secondly, there is the study of the effect art has on our lives, whether it be the preparation of a report, decorating the house or office or advertising and marketing a product or oneself.
Science & Technology
Sciences
At The Hub School we are extremely fortunate in having six large fully equipped laboratories with ample preparation and storage space. A carefully controlled programme of discovery and learning leads the boys into the understanding of the incredible achievements of man and the environmental issues he has created.
Of course being a Boarding School, Science does not stop when school closes. We have an extensive school farm where the boys will have practical experience of agriculture. There will be an observatory on the roof where the boys can study the planets and stars.
Technology
The Hub School is proud to be the only school in Pakistan with purpose-built technology rooms. For boys keen on crafts and the art of invention in wood, metal, plastic or other materials. The skills developed will lead to a hobby of a lifetime and of course for those going into engineering or related discipline there will be no substitute for practical knowledge gained. The school will also teach culinary arts for boys who are interested.
Liberal Arts
Humanities
Traditionally history, geography and social sciences have been about learning facts and dates. History is always written by the winning side. In line with modern education, The Hub School asks the questions and considers the evidence. Humanities are the study of people and their environment. The resources available in the library and on the Internet will empower the boys’ independent research.
Pakistan Studies
The underlying principals of humanities apply to most events in the world and therefore at The Hub School we teach a mixture of World history and geography in context with regional history leading to the creation of Pakistan. This part of the humanities curriculum covers the development of Pakistan in greater detail.
PSHE and Islamiat
Personal, social and health education helps to build self-esteem and to value the individual. It covers the understanding of the body, healthy lifestyle and the importance of relationships in friendship, in business, in marriage and the family. For our Muslim students, this aspect of the curriculum will be delivered in combination with the study of Islamiat and the Islamic practice and culture.
Physical Education and Health Education
Sports
On the playing field, as in the classroom, The Hub School promotes citizenship and leadership, teaches sportsmanship and fair play, and instills the boys with a life-long commitment to positive physical and emotional habits.
At The Hub School, the range of sporting activities is limitless. Of course, we have the traditional team sports such as cricket, football, squash, basketball, swimming, our national sport- hockey but also equestrian sports, water sports, golf and indeed any sport for which there is a demand. All round growth requires an all round education.
Health Education
The importance of Diet, exercise and healthy lifestyle are important and is acknowledged in this part of the curriculum. As a boarding school we are fortunate in having professional medical staff, nutritionists and counsellors on site allowing us to give the boys a much more practical and comprehensive understanding of their bodies to live a more fulfilling life. |
